Recently, Manaslu Trek has become an alternative route to Round Annapurna Trek because of the large tourists flow and road constructions disturbing the trails in the Annapurna Region. Having said that, the road construction is taking place in the Manaslu region as well which is not good for the overall tourism industry but it’s good for the local people having access to roads.
I was on a recce trip to Manaslu to avoid the road in the trekking trail. We drove from Kathmandu to Barpak, one of the epicenters of the earthquake 2015 and continued walking through beautiful villages like Laprak, Sing La, Khorla and finally Khorlabesi where the classic Manaslu Trek trail meets. This trail avoids the road and the view of the high snow caped mountains like Buddha Himal is breathtaking.
Highlights of the trips:
- Beautiful Gurung villages – Barpak and Laprak (epicenters of Earthquake 2015)
- Punggen Gompa (Monastery) – 360° view of the high snow caped mountains like Manaslu, Hiuchuli, Nadi Chuli (Peak 29) and Rani Peak
- Larke La Pass (5,140 m) – The altitude of the pass mentioned in the board by Manaslu Conservation Area Project (MCAP) is 5,106m but my GPS device showed 5,140m
